Jonathan Fleming

Monday, August 15th, 2011

As you may know, we have in our midst, a new “trainee” minister, Jonathan Fleming. Jonathan will be with us full time for the next 15 months. We met him and his family a couple of weeks ago at morning worship and last Sunday (14th/8) he told us a little about himself.

If you were not at the service or didn’t quite get to hear all he had to say, he has written a bit about himself for the website (exclusive). So over to the man himself.

Having previously spent eight months in Motherwell: North Parish Church, ten weeks in Castlemilk East and West Parish Churches and nine months in Bothwell Parish Church, I am delighted to be here in Trinity for my Probationary Placement until Autumn 2012.I have recently graduated from the University of Glasgow where I studied for a BD(Min) in Theology & Religious Studies. I am not missing essays or dissertation deadlines!
Upon graduating in 2004, I began studying a Masters degree in Information Management and Preservation, which was cut short to allow me to take over the running of our family’s food distribution company due to my late father’s illness. During this time, I acquired a Forklift licence in eighty minutes, which I have used a lot more than my French degree, which took five years! In that time, I married Karyn, a music teacher in Stonelaw High School. A year later we had our daughter Rachel, who will no doubt terrorise the Sunday School once in a while!
In the Winter of 2007, I answered God’s call to Ministry and I have not looked back since. It has been a journey not only with its demands, joys and frustrations, but a journey of self exploration, which I continue to travel along to this day.
Thank you all for such a warm welcome to Trinity and I look forward to talking and journeying with you in the months ahead!

Jonathan Fleming
